How We Organize

The Political Home for Immigrant Youth

Our communities are facing unimaginable harm. Immigrants are being detained and abducted on their way home, to school, and to work. Others are killed simply for defending their neighbors from deportation. Cruel and inhumane policies, as they always have throughout U.S. history, continue to tear families apart.

At the same time, misinformation and harmful narratives on social and mainstream media are legitimizing and fueling this violence. Private companies continue to profit from detaining our communities, while funding politicians who create and sustain policies that actively target Black and Brown people, including immigrants.

We know the only way to defend our communities and create the change we seek is by building the power of directly impacted people. At the Student Immigrant Movement (SIM), we are creating a political home where immigrant youth can belong, organize, and lead the fight for justice.

Community Organizing & Leadership Development

We center the voices of undocumented and immigrant youth. Through base building, young people who join SIM are supported in stepping into leadership roles and collectively shaping the issues our organization takes on.

Political Education

We believe lasting change begins when people can understand the world around them and take action on its root causes. Through political education, we build awareness of the systems that hold back immigrant and marginalized communities—and empower people to challenge and transform them.

Cultural Activism

We know that transformation is possible when we create spaces for joy, for fun, and for healing. Our work is grounded in cultural activism, and we empower ourselves through culture to fuel our organizing against oppressive systems.
